As we approach the mid-point of the season, what better time than now to assess the best of the best in the league. Here are my top 5 in the NFL.
1. New Orleans Saints – I tried to think of every negative thing that I could that would keep this team from owning the top spot. But like Rakim, I would “dig deeper, still coming up with lent.” Offense is on point. Defense comes up with big plays. And they win games, simple and plain. They had a couple of big come from behind wins over the past two weeks – so they’re resilient. The bottom line is that I wouldn’t feel comfortable picking anyone to beat them.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers – The Steelers’ offensive and defensive team leaders are two of the best in the NFL. If there’s one guy that I’d always like to have on my side in a battle, it would be Ben Roethlisberger. The guy is ugly, slow, uncoordinated – but he’s a real winner. With Troy Polamalu back at safety, Pittsburgh is very close to being a complete team.

Vikings' opponents better not sleep on AP.
3. Minnesota Vikings – The old man is doing it once again. Helping a team that needed a vertical passing game. Nowadays, its almost as if Adrian Peterson has taken a back seat to the Brett Favre hype machine. But if anyone dares to sleep on AP, they’d better be prepared to suffer the consequences.
4. Philadelphia Eagles – The Eagles make this list because they are super-explosive. They have two losses, but will athletes like LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson, Brian Westbrook, Jeremy Maclin, Michael Vick…and with Donovan McNabb at the helm…this team has all the goods to get the job done. The Philly defense always plays aggressive and competes – game in, game out.
5. Indianapolis Colts – Why are they not #1 or #2 in this list? It comes down to which teams are the strongest. We all know that Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning. Their defense is just OK though, and now they have lost two key players on that side of the ball. Indianapolis is a team capable of winning the Super Bowl. And so are the four other teams that I have ranked above them.
Just missed the cut: New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals

I am very happy for the SAINTS, THEIR FANS AND THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS, after they have been thru the wringer they're back !
