A lot of you may have seen this on Sunday. If not, here’s your look at one of the dumbest football plays of all-time – courtesy of San Francisco 49ers’ cornerback Dre Bly:
Here are just some of the reasons that it ranks high on the stupidity scale:
1. The 49ers were losing to the Falcons 35-10 at the time of the boneheaded play.
2. Mike Singletary had already blasted his team for coming out flat to start the game. I’m sure that Bly’s style impressed him.
3. According to Bly himself, “Normally, when I’ve intercepted passes like that, in between me and the end zone, I’ve scored.” Really…well your percentage of ‘interceptions-ran-back-for-touchdowns-on-passes-intercepted-inside-my-own-20 yard-line’ just dropped.
3. Dre Bly – isn’t he like 40 years old? Well, maybe not…but he ain’t no spring chicken anymore. Roddy White (the Falcons’ receiver who stripped him) could be eating a bucket of chicken and still beat Bly in the 40.
4. The ball was intercepted inside the 49ers’ red zone. Bly actually started high-stepping around the San Francisco 20 yard line. That’s right – he had a whole ‘nother 80 yards to go before he really should have started high-stepping.
But as dumb as this play was…it was just as funny. Good job making us all laugh Dre.
