When Will T.O. Go Off?

T.O. hasn't had many meetings with the football in his short tenure with the Bills.

Upon receiving the key to the city of Buffalo on his VH1 reality show, Terrell Owens was given a condition that the Bills must make the playoffs.  Owens confirmed that the team would make the postseason.  Looks like he better go to Home Depot to make a copy before the mayor takes it back.

The Bills has started the season 1-4, and they have lost games in a variety of ways…against opponents of varying calibers.  They lost their opener to the New England Patriots by a point after special teams fumble put the game in Tom Brady’s hands with less than 2 minutes on the clock.  They got smoked by the Saints and the Dolphins.  They followed that with a loss to the Browns – by a field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Throughout this buffet of losses, one thing has been alarmingly consistent – - Buffalo’s offense has been anemic.  In their last three games, they have averaged 6.6 points per game.  Last week, they lost to a team that had only two pass completions the entire game.

Put a microphone in T.O.s face, and you never know what might happen.

But the one aspect of the Bills game that was expected to improve was its passing attack.  While Trent Edwards is by no means an above-average quarterback, the addition of T.O. to balance with Lee Evans figured to uplift the Buffalo air game.  Well, Owens has not made an impact so far – he only has 12 receptions (202 yards) in 5 games.  What’s really sad is that those 12 receptions actually tied him for the lead amongst all Bills wide receivers (running back Fred Jackson leads the team with 22 catches).

With its offense in shambles, now the Bills will apparently abandon their no-huddle offense – which T.O. didn’t like in the first place.

The next games for Buffalo are fairly daunting:

- A talented New York Jets team that has stumbled in its last two games.  They will be hungry for a win.

- A rugged Carolina Panthers team that picked up its first win of the season this week.

- An explosive Houston Texans squad, with extraordinary, speedy defensive players.

That makes three more weeks of struggles for Buffalo.  And three weeks that they’ll hope T.O. doesn’t go off.
