Want Drama? Get a Superstar WR

Which position on the football field is the most significant?

Just imagine that you were from another planet and your only source of sports news was – uh oh – the Internet.  You surf through all of the reports, commentaries, blogs, etc. and have to make your own assessment.  What would be the result?

Such an analysis would force you to believe that wide receivers are the most important pieces of any football team.  Why?  If for no other reason, the sheer frequency of stories of team conflict, contract negotiations and general dissatisfaction says it all.

Boldin has undoubtedly lost some fans over the past couple of years.

Boldin has undoubtedly lost some fans over the past couple of years.

We all know the usual suspects of the past and present – T.O., Ochocinco, Anquan BoldinKeyshawn Johnson - they dominate the NFL news and make sure that their names hit the headlines on a regular basis.  They make big time plays due to their physical gifts, excite the fans with their acts of showmanship, and fill the stands with their unpredictability.  Some WRs are even establishing their prima donna status before they catch a pass in the NFL.

Brandon Marshall’s situation is just the latest in a trend of special pass catchers perceiving themselves as being undervalued.

It seems as if you want to avoid discord in your organization, make sure that you have a well-rounded offense and that you spread the ball around effectively.  Don’t become dependent on a superstar wideout.

Doing so might force you to give him more than you actually receive in return.
