Another year of college football, another year of hopes and dreams of a special season for many institutions across the nation.  One such team would be the Virgina Tech Hokies.

Now, of course, I have a little more interest than your casual fan would about the Hokies.  I am an alum of the school – which is forever tied to the infamous, but spectacularly-talented, Michael Vick.  And while he certainly made big noise at the school, including a 1999 national title game appearance, the school had already begun forging a legacy of playing successful football.

Year after year, the Hokies were at or near the top of Big East Conference.  In 2004, they (along with the Miami Hurricanes) joined the ACC for what would seem to be stiffer competition for the Hokies.  But since aligning with their new conference, they have continued their winning ways – including winning the Atlantic Coast Conference three of the last five years.  In total, the team from Blacksburg, Virginia has a streak of 15 straight bowl appearances (currently the third-longest streak in Div-I college football).  Frank Beamer has given an identity to a football program that didn’t even exist less than two decades years ago.

However, in the process of this outstanding run, a couple of things have eluded Virginia Tech’s grasp:

1. First, and most notably, a national title.

2. Overall recognition on a national scale as an elite program.

Now, of course, these are linked to one another – as presumably the first will bring about the second.  But in the course of yet another season where the expectations are great, we have to ask…when will the Hokies take that next step??  Will they ever??

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
