Saggy Pants Saga is Ridiculous

Deshon Marman's 15 minutes of fame have nothing to do with his football ability.

When was the last time that you saw someone in public with their pants sagging so low that you could see their undergarments?
Assuming that you’ve experienced one of these not-so-great moments, let me ask a few questions with regards to that experience.
Did you feel personally offended? Or did you just think that the person looked silly?
Did you ask them to pull up their pants? Or did you just leave them to wallow in their own ignorant (at least, in your opinion) habits?
Did you even enlighten them on the fact that their drawers were showing?
I’ll just assume that you didn’t feel offended, that you didn’t ask them to pull up their pants, and that you didn’t tell them that their drawers were visible. And I will also assume that you thought that the person in question looked rather foolish, and you probably pointed him out to someone else that may have been around you at the time of the jaw-dropping incident.
So, it proved to be a mild surprise to that somebody actually said something to New Mexico football player Deshon Marman. The first reported verbal exchange occurred between Marman and a boarding agent. The whole situation appears to look like a case of “I don’t like what I see, now let me find the rules that support my opinion.” And who knows where the request to push the player’s button originated, but there were clearly some authoritative figures associated with the airline who were clearly going to do all that they could to ensure that they got their wish.
Overall, it really gives the airline more of a sting than it does the player. We all generally accept saggy pants as a sign of youth and perhaps a small sign of incomplete maturity, but the bottom line is that no one who chooses to let their pants hang is refused service at McDonald’s, or kicked out of the line at Walmart.
Of course, US Airways viewpoint may be different than a regular retailer. If a person is kicked out of line before placing the order for their Big Mac, no money will change hands. The same goes for making a purchase at your local Walmart. But in the case of an airplane ticket, the funds change hands without concern for the visual appearance of the customer. That is, until he or she attempts to board the plane.
The player’s ticket has been paid in full, yet his service is being withheld. Seems as if a whole new can of worms is being opened – and airline companies will have to provide an additional disclosure when selling tickets electronically, or by phone. Given the circumstances of this instance, could Marman have requested to receive a refund for his ticket? If so, he’s discovered a new method that we all can use to get out of a “non-refundable” ticket…
We just need to make sure that our drawers are clean before we do.
