"I'm only staying for one year, Coach."
Poor Tim Floyd can’t catch a break. After a disastrous tenure with the Chicago Bulls, now he has resigned as head coach of the USC basketball team.
He was systematically forced to do so after allegations that claim he paid $1,000 to a friend of blue-chipper O.J. Mayo (yes, another USC athlete getting “extra benefits”…is there a trend here?). My question would be…why??
In the years to come, what good would having O.J. Mayo on your roster for one year do? Mayo had his eyes set on the NBA since he was being scouted in the 6th grade. This was just a mandatory step in the process for him dictated by the league that he will one day earn millions from and make millions for.
And Tim – no one even remembers your team from that year. Most NBA fans don’t even know what school Mayo went to. So, you won’t even benefit if he becomes a megastar because he isn’t a player with a legacy attached to USC. He didn’t win a title for USC. He didn’t play there for a few years with sustained success.
And now you lost your job for $1,000. Just plain sad.
