With LeBron James in the midst of licking his free-agency chops, there are a host of possible destinations for the former hoops prodigy.

While hot markets such as Chicago (the Bulls) and New York (with the Nets and the Knicks) are chomping at the bit for James, Cleveland is certainly not giving up on retaining his services.  But with more enticing options available, it’s almost as if Cavs’ fans are preparing excuses for their anticipated inability to resign James.

And one of the excuses, to say the least, is unfathomable.

Rumors have circulated that an affair exists between Cavaliers’ guard Delonte West and Gloria James – A.K.A. LeMom James.  Deadspin breaks down the very interesting rumor timeline here.

And why would West want LeBron’s mom?

-  Last time I checked, Delonte West was still on an NBA roster.  And NBA players normally have their pick of the litter when it comes to the ladies.  Comparatively speaking, Gloria James isn’t even on the bag that the litter comes in.

-  The connection between him and Ms. James would always have Cavs fans believing that he’s the source of Cleveland’s shortcomings.  In other words, if LeBron doesn’t play well and they lose the game, all eyes will be on West’s forbidden freakiness.

-  Gloria’s face is LeBron’s face.  They look identical with the exception of hair length.  In fact, they look so much alike that having an affair with Gloria would almost be like having an affair with LeBron.  I’m sure that Delonte and LeBron may be friends, but if LeBron knew that West was up on his mother – I think that would make for some uncomfortable conversations between the two.

-  West likes working in the NBA.  It’s one of the few jobs in the world that allows you to ride your bike around the beltway looking like Rambo, by providing you with the salary to foot any consequential penalties.  He’s not going to give that up for a LeBron James’ look-a-like.
