On Thursday night, the home teams (Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic) staved off elimination in their best-of-seven series. So, now the stage is set for a couple of big game sevens on Sunday. Here are some of my random thoughts:
- The Lakers have an overabundance of skill. But they are like the tin man in the Wizard of Oz – they have no heart. The Rockets are just the opposite – no Yao, no T-Mac – and here they are in Game 7 against the team that most people picked to win the title…and the one that almost everyone picked to win the Western Conference. And if they do get past the Rockets, they’ll be going up against a confident, equally-talented Denver Nuggets team.
- I’ll bet you anything that Kobe Bryant would love to have Luis Scola and Shane Battier on his team. Those guys are competitors. As much as they are giving Bryant fits, I’m sure he respects what they bring the the court night in and night out.
- The Boston Celtics love living on the edge. I just can’t see them losing in Game 7 in Boston, though. Too much experience. Too much fight.
- Over the course of the first two rounds of the playoffs, the Cleveland Cavaliers have had a lot of time to rest (because they’ve swept their first two series). This should help them outlast either the Celtics or the Magic in the next round.
- Rajon Rondo needs to get a respectable jump shot. Heck, even a doggone set shot will do. The way the Magic were using his defender to roam and double-team was just pathetic. I would be embarrassed enough to work hard in the off-season. That’s about the only thing that could keep him from being an All-Star.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
