Hedo Turkoglu shredded the Boston defense all night.
Defense wins championships. We’ve heard that phrase redundantly. But it was never more relevant than in today’s Game 7 competitions.
The Los Angeles Lakers started off the defensive parade by holding the Houston Rockets to 70 points in their 19-point victory at the Staples Center. The Lakers jumped out to the early lead and never looked back against a Rockets team with very few offensive options. The Rockets’ high scorer was Aaron Brooks with 13 points. The Lakers had four players with more points than him.
In Boston, it was the Celtics lack of defense that led to their demise on Sunday night. After the Celtics had crawled back to within 5 points to start the 4th quarter, the Orlando Magic responded with an 11-0 run on their way to a 101-82 win. The Magic outscored the Celtics 35-21 in the final quarter, and shot 13-21 on 3-point field goals. Just like the Rockets, the Celtics seemed to run out of scoring options as the game went on and the Magic tightened up their defense.
