Back in 1986, the display that Slam Dunk participant Spud Webb put on had NBA fans in disbelief. 

The 5’7″ jumping bean won the 1986 Slam Dunk contest with a dazzling display of dunks which included ball tosses, double-pumps, 180-degree, and even 360-degree spins.  Webb was a mild-mannered, soft-spoken player – - he never had huge press, he was never a player whose stature was above his team.  Spud averaged 10 points per game throughout his career.  So other than his unexpected dunking victory, there wasn’t anything else that stood out about Webb’s NBA career.

Now, the new small man on the dunk scene in New York Knicks guard Nate Robinson.  He’s a two-time dunk champion (2006 and 2009).  And, oh yeah, he’s only 5’9″.

This year, Robinson will be vying for his third title – a feat which has not been accomplished in the 24-year history of the competition.  With the combination of his lack of height and the possibility of capturing a third title…is Nate Robinson the best dunk contestant ever?  Well, I think I know the answer to that one – so maybe we should tone down the question a bit…
