Nate Robinson or Spud Webb??

5'9" Nate Robinson is one of the most explosive players in the NBA.
Back in 1986, the display that Slam Dunk participant Spud Webb put on had NBA fans in disbelief.
The 5’7″ jumping bean won the 1986 Slam Dunk contest with a dazzling display of dunks which included ball tosses, double-pumps, 180-degree, and even 360-degree spins. Webb was a mild-mannered, soft-spoken player – - he never had huge press, he was never a player whose stature was above his team. Spud averaged 10 points per game throughout his career. So other than his unexpected dunking victory, there wasn’t anything else that stood out about Webb’s NBA career.
Check out Webb’s spectacular display in the 1986 Dunk Contest:
Now, the new small man on the dunk scene in New York Knicks guard Nate Robinson. He’s a two-time dunk champion (2006 and 2009). And, oh yeah, he’s only 5’9″.
This year, Robinson will be vying for his third title – a feat which has not been accomplished in the 24-year history of the competition. With the combination of his lack of height and the possibility of capturing a third title…is Nate Robinson the best dunk contestant ever? Well, I think I know the answer to that one – so maybe we should tone down the question a bit…
Who was better in the dunk contest: Nate Robinson or Spud Webb?
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Spudd Webb already set the stage well before there was "Nate the Great" dunker. If you look at the video carefully, Spudd even impressed the sports best – Michael Jordan. It of course would be nice to see a dunk off just as we dream of competitions such as the possibilities of Michael Jackson vs. Hammer or Ali vs. Tyson…it'll never happen. Until you change game, that's when you gain a real name. Dunkers like Dr. J, Michael Jordan, Shawn Kemp, Isaiah Ryder, Vince Carter, and Dwight Howard made us say "WOW." Show the world a new dunk, then you might get my "WOW…" for now he's just holding a title.
"One of the 3 Best Players in the World – GBailey"
What up G! Don't be one of those old school guys who is biased on old school players. It's not Nate's fault that he hasn't had steep competition in two of his three dunk contest victories. But Robinson is definitely a better athlete than Spud was. The guy's explosion is ridiculous and he makes more of an impact in the actual games. Spud is only remembered for what he did in the dunk contest – - and rightfully so.
So, Spud was great in the 80's…but don't hate on Robinson because he really doens't deserve it.
