I was saddened to hear the news about Wayman Tisdale this evening. Although I admittedly don’t remember a whole lot about his time in the NBA (or as an All-American at OU), I do remember always seeing him with a smile on his face during the games.
Such as infectious, happy guy, Tisdale said that music was his first love. When I listened to his first CD, Power Forward, I thought to myself “Wow…this guy’s musical talent actually trumps his athletic talent.” And that was saying a lot.
Little did I know that he would go on to produce many more albums, and that he would become a household name in the contemporary/smooth jazz genre. If you get a chance, go and check out http://www.waymantisdale.com/ (it was actually down at press time, possibly being updated). The man has a smooth style, and his songs are easy to enjoy.
Wayman was only 44 years of age. May God bless his family and friends.
