Boxing Needs an Epic Mayweather-Mosley Battle

Despite his unblemished career record, Money Mayweather needs to beat an opponent of Mosley's pedigree.
Saturday night will be the rarest of nights in the sport of boxing.
We’ll get to witness two of boxing’s biggest names go toe-to-toe in one of the most heavily anticipated bouts in recent memory.
Floyd “Money” Mayweather will be taking on “Sugar” Shane Mosley on Saturday night in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand – and the matchup will showcase a couple of the most skilled professionals in the game today. They’ll bring distinctly different styles into the ring this weekend, and the hype surrounding this tussle is well deserved.
“Sugar” Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) is that little brother that’s looking for respect. That’s obviously not an assessment made with regard to his age (he’s 38, five years older than Mayweather), but rather the fact that his success has been somewhat overshadowed by other ‘attention-grabbers’ in boxing mainstream.
Mosley always comes to fight, and he applies relentless pressure on his opponents. He is a supreme power-punchers for his size, as evidenced by his 39 KOs. Sugar Shane loves to mix it up, and he’ll stand an increased chance of success if he can induce Mayweather into a brawling competition. He’ll try to come right at Mayweather early and often, and if he connects on some power punches it may stun his challenger and take him out of his rhythm.
Floyd “Money” Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) takes great pride in his reputable status as a technical boxer. Mayweather is extrememly patience and is one of the best counter-punchers the welterweight class has ever seen. He has been outstanding at avoiding big punches from opponents – and with Mosley’s power, he’ll be looking to do the same on Saturday.

Once he steps into the ring, "Sugar" Shane won't hold back any punches.
Look for the undefeated Mayweather to attempt to fire back and catch Mosley in his tracks early in the fight. If he’s able to do that, it may knocks some of the steam off of Mosley’s aggression and allow Mayweather to remain in his comfort zone for the remainder of the night. Floyd’s modus operandi is to keep his foes at bay by making them miss and countering them – thereby making them second guess their punches and plan of attack.
The skill sets of each boxer make this a dream matchup. And it’s one that is long overdue for boxing fans. It’s extremely difficult for the sport to remain in the public eye, simply because there can only be one mega-fight every blue moon. With other professional sports – such as football, basketball and baseball – the headlines are flooded with material because they are playing weekly, every few days, or in some cases daily. But Saturday’s venue will be big, and there’s talk that pay-per-view records may be in jeopardy for the event.
And because of that, “Sugar” and “Money” will each be given their chance to have their names etched in boxing history – and in the mouths of fans - in one of the best showdowns ever.
